Community Library

The idea for this site is simple...we are creating our own library. It's like me saying, "Here's all my books. You bring all your books. Have your friends bring all their books. We'll put them in this room and then we can borrow books from each other." But we're doing it with Kindle books. Not all books can be shared (Amazon calls in "lending" books), but we'll share the ones we can. And the great thing is, Amazon will take care of most all of it for us. There is no danger of somebody keeping your book too long or losing it. After they've had it 14 days, it comes back to you automatically.

If you are new to your Kindle and/or are not a real techie person this will be a learning experience for you, BUT DON'T GIVE UP. I have simplified the sign up process so I am confident you can do this!

SIGN UP HERE - A Simple, Three Step Process
  1. Set up a free Google Documents account if you don't already have one (here's how to do it)
  2. Fill out this form and list at least one book you can loan (if you have more, please list more!). When listing your email address, be sure to use the address that is tied to your Google Docs account.
  3. Once you have listed at least one book in the library, you will be sent a link to view the library.

Here is a sample of what is currently in the library (12-28-11). NOTE: You cannot edit this spreadsheet, add your books or check out any books from here. You must go through the process above. This just gives you an idea of what is there now. Obviously, the more people join our library, the better the selection becomes. Please add your books using the process described above.

FAQ
Q: Can I browse the library if I do not have any books that I can lend to others?
A: No. To access the library, you must list at least one book you own and can lend.

Q: How will I access the community library?
A: The library is currently in a shared Google Documents spreadsheet. To access the spreadsheet, you will need to fill out the form below. Once I receive your information, I will send you another form to fill out to list the Kindle books you have to share. Once that is received, you will be sent a link that you can access from within your Google Documents account which will take you to the online spreadsheet. Please read Google Docs help files for spreadsheets before sending me an email saying you cannot access the spreadsheet or asking how to work in the spreadsheet.

Q: How do I check out a book?
A: Once you have the link to the library you are free to look for a book you would like to check out. Contact the book's owner directly, using the provided email address, to request the book. See the How to Lend a Book section for further instruction.

Q: Who will see my email address
A: The Google spreadsheet will be protected and available only to those who have also added books to the library. Fellow lenders will be the only ones to see your email address (which you must give in order for members to contact you about borrowing a book)

Q: What do I do if I request a book and never hear back from the author
A: Please allow at least 24 hours or a response. If you do not have a response by that time, you may contact Rob@KindleCommunityLibrary.com. Lenders who do not respond to requests within a reasonable amount of time will be removed from the library and will not longer have access to it.

Q: What if I have a question that is not addressed here?
A. You may fill out the form on the Contact Us tab.  Please remember this is a hobby of mine and not a site run by multiple staff. I will do the best I can to respond quickly.

Q: Are the books in the library screened/censored?
A: Yes. The creator of the page is a Christian and maintains the right to delete any offering at his sole discretion. The criteria for acceptable/not acceptable will no doubt change as this project grows. At this time (12-28-11), I am asking that Erotica and Horror books not be listed. Lenders will be notified if any books are removed from the list by the site's creator. Any books re-listed without permission may be cause for the lender to be removed from the library. ANY removal of book listings by a person other than the site's creator will be tracked by Google Documents and will be sufficient reason to remove the person doing the removing from the library. Questions Comments and Suggestions may be offered here.
